Cobb County parents, students, and teachers may soon have to adjust to a another school calendar for the coming year.

The Cobb County School Board will consider changing the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 school year at its meeting on Thursday.

"Statistics are also a funny thing," said Sweeney. "Studies have shown that there is no significant evidence showing improved scholastic achievement with the adoption of a balanced calendar."

Under the balanced calendar, which was approved in November 2009, school starts the first week of August and ends right before Memorial Day. In exchange for the shortened summer break, students get out for a week in September and in February.

"It may not work here in Cobb County," parent Amy Ryan told WSB-TV, "but we need to give it time to see if it creates the best learning environment for our children."

Residents were invited to participate in a survey to choose between three different calendars.
