This is not your typical story about a teacher who had an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Not only is Campbell High School math teacher, 55-year-old Jonas Magdangal charged with having an illegal relationship with a 17-year-old female student, the student is also facing charges.
Smyrna Police Officer Michael Smith tells Channel 2 Action News the teen told another student that she not only had sex with Magdangal on New Year's Eve at Vinings Hotel, but she also was getting paid and getting better grades.
"The student, the victim, started to extort money and better grades from the teacher,” Smith said. “(She got) a couple hundred dollars in cash and the student was looking for an "A" in a class. It's my understanding that the student was actually given a better grade than they deserved.”
She has been charged with extortion, a felony, which carries up to a ten year prison sentence.
