“You will pay for this.”
That is the threat from opponents of the $672-million stadium deal approved by the Cobb County Commission.
“We have a bipartisan coalition of volunteers that are willing to go door to door with petitions in hand to work for a recall and they’ll work against any sitting commissioner,” said Debbie Dooley, a Gwinnett County resident who claims to have founded the Atlanta Tea Party Patriots.
Dooley, whose group was one of more than a dozen opposing the stadium agreement, said volunteers will come from all over the state to exact political revenge for what she called a betrayal of the people by the commissioners they elected to represent them.
Two Cobb County commissioners, Helen Goreham and JoAnn Birrell, are up for election next year. Both voted to approve a memo of understanding with the Atlanta Braves that will bring the baseball team to Cobb County in time for the first pitch of the 2017 season.
