Atlanta Police: Man intentionally ran over mother of 10

Atlanta police say the woman that was run over near her home was mowed down on purpose.

Investigators 63-year-old Alex Mason did it. They say he hit and killed 53-year-old Marilyn Redding with his PT Cruiser while she was on a sidewalk at Gartrell and Boulevard Streets in southeast Atlanta.

Redding is a mother of 10. She and Mason were involved in some sort of altercation before the crash, police said. It’s not exactly clear what happened.

Witnesses corralled Mason until police could get there to arrest him.

“He started mashing the gas and was going back and worth,” witness Arthur Jones told Channel 2 Action News. “Like he was trying to make sure she was dead.”

Jones also says Mason would have smashed Redding’s head, but other people pulled him out of the car.

“She didn’t deserve to go like this,” says Redding’s husband Kenny.

Mason is being treated for injuries at Grady Hospital. Once Mason gets out of the hospital he will go to jail. He is charged with murder and aggravated assault.
