Apparent tornado damages homes in Troup Co.

“It just popped out of the sky.”

Troup County Deputy Stewart Smith said the short-lived apparent tornado damaged several homes, mostly along New Franklin Road, before ascending back into the sky.

“There’s probably up to ten houses with minor to moderate damage,” he told WSB’s Pete Combs. “There were no injuries at all.”

It’ll be up to the National Weather Service to decide whether the damage was caused by straight winds or a tornado.

The windstorm knocked a lot of trees down on power lines, Smith said, but he doesn’t believe any of the damaged homes has been declared uninhabitable.
