5 Atlanta Braves named to All-Star Game, Snitker to manage NL team

Major League Baseball announced the All-Star Game rosters Sunday and the Atlanta Braves will be well-represented on the National League side in Los Angeles.

Manager Brian Snitker will coach the NL team that features five Braves players on the roster.

Ronald Acuña Jr. earned the most votes out of any NL player and will start in the outfield. William Contreras will start at designated hitter in place of Phillies’ Bryce Harper, who is on the injured list.

The All-Star Game will be held at Dodgers Stadium on July 19.

Dansby Swanson and Travis d’Arnaud, who both finished second in All-Star voting at their positions, will be reserves. Max Fried will be one of 12 pitchers for the NL All-Stars.

The Braves, who haven’t had an off-day since June 27, will play seven more games before the All-Star break.

First up, Atlanta is gearing up for a pivotal series against the New York Mets. After a Mets loss and Austin Riley’s walk-off on Sunday, the Braves find themselves only 1.5 games back in the NL East standings.

The Braves begin the series Monday with Max Fried on the mound against Max Scherzer for the Mets. First pitch is set for 7:20 p.m.
