Q – I can feel a draft coming in around my windows. Does this mean I need new replacement windows? I really can't afford them at this time…

A – Is it time for new windows? Normally I would tell you yes. New insulated windows can help to lower your energy bill by as much as 40%.
However, you may be able to get by simply installing some high-quality storm windows. Storm windows can be very effective at stopping drafts and at a fraction of the price of replacement windows.
You can install a basic aluminum triple-track storm window. It is called a triple track because it holds two glass sashes and one screen that slide up and down on several tracks.
Although these aren’t the prettiest windows in the world, they will do a nice job for you.
One installation tip – don’t caulk the bottom of the storm window as it sits along the windowsill. That may trap water that leaks in or condenses on the inside of the glass.
Weather-stripping may also help stop the draft.
Don’t totally rule out the new windows either. Start saving now – new, efficient windows don’t just help you keep out the cold air in the winter, they also help you keep the cold air in during the summer.
