Equifax confirms its systems were not compromised a second time

Equifax says it can confirm its systems were “not compromised” a second time.

In a statement to WSB, an Equifax spokesperson said:

“The reported issue did not affect our consumer online dispute portal. The issue involves a third-party vendor that Equifax uses to collect website performance data, and that vendor’s code running on an Equifax website was serving malicious content. Since we learned of the issue, the vendor’s code was removed from the webpage and we have taken the webpage offline to conduct further analysis.”

On Thursday, an independent security analyst found part of Equifax's website was under the control of attackers trying to trick visitors into installing fraudulent adobe flash updates that could have infected computers with Malware.

The Atlanta-based credit reporting agency recently disclosed a hack that compromised the sensitive information of more than 145 million people.

WSB Consumer expert Clark Howard says, "You can't make this stuff up."

He recommends that if you have recently been to the Equifax site and were asked to download an update then you need to run anti-virus spyware quickly.
