Suspect crashes in high speed chase, pregnant woman hurt

A suspect trying to out run the Georgia State Patrol is in the jail after crashing his vehicle into a van full of people.

The suspected drunk driver took off from a Georgia State Trooper on Peachtree Industrial Road in Buford. The two vehicles traveled into Hall County at speeds over 100 miles an hour.

“(The suspect was) making U-turns, driving on the road side of the road, running traffic signals, red lights,” GSP Sgt. James Warren told Channel 2 Action News.

Sgt. Warren says the trooper tried to use a pit maneuver to stop the suspect on Friendship Road. That didn’t work and the trooper crashed, but wasn’t seriously hurt.

But the chased lasted only a couple more miles when the suspect crashed into a van on Gainesville Highway. Six people, including a pregnant woman were inside. She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The suspect’s name has not been released. GSP is also not releasing the charges the suspect will face.
