Volunteers will return this morning to continue their foot search for a missing Gwinnett County man.
Kelly Nash disappeared between 4:30 and 7:30 Monday morning. His father Alan Nash says it appears the 25-year-old simply walked away from his home near Buford Dam.
“He left without… a wallet, no car, no money that we’re aware of; not sure if he had a shirt or jacket on,” he tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish.
Nash says he’s considered all possibilities of what may have happened. But despite the bitterly cold temperatures, he believes his son may still be alive.
“Unless he’s hurt, Kelly is resilient,” he says. “I’m positive he would have found the places to stay warm.”
So far more than 200 volunteers have helped police scour the area and 5,000 flyers have been distributed. The foot search was temporarily called off Wednesday night into Thursday due to the falling temperatures.
While Nash admits an empty gun case was found inside the home, he doesn’t know if his son actually possessed the gun at the time he disappeared.
His girlfriend says he had been sick and couldn’t sleep that night. She last saw him playing his Xbox around 4am.
While Gwinnett Police detectives have taken the lead in the investigation, deputies from the Gwinnett Sheriff’s Office are also participating in the search. A volunteer K-9 search and rescue group, led by Tracy Sargent, has also been called in to help.
“If Kelly is in an area we are searching with the dogs, the dogs will take us to him,” she says. “They also tells us where something isn’t.”
Alan Nash says he’s also been contacted by a helicopter pilot who has offered to search the area by air.
The family now has a new command post for volunteers to gather starting at 9am. The address is 4460 Commerce Drive in Buford.
A $10,000 reward is being offered to leading to the whereabouts of Nash.
