Arrested FIFA executive may lose four Georgia properties

One of the nine FIFA officials facing charges from the U.S. Department of Justice may have to give up four properties in Georgia.

FIFA vice president Jeffrey Webb's home in Atlanta, worth $750,000, is one of 13 properties named in the U.S. indictment that could be seized by the government following a conviction.

According to the indictment, Webb received bribes and kickbacks totaling over $6 million for guaranteeing media and marketing rights to sports marketing companies including Traffic USA.

Webb's Atlanta property and three other Georgia properties were allegedly purchased using funds received directly from bribes.

If Webb cannot forfeit the properties to the government upon his conviction, he will still pay the U.S. a fine equaling the total value of the properties.

On May 27, Webb and 13 other officials were arrested in Zurich prior to the opening of the 65th FIFA Congress.

The U.S. is working with Switzerland to extradite seven of those arrested to U.S. soil to be tried.

The 14 FIFA and sports marketing officials face a total of 47 charges including racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering.

The charges are the result of an investigation from the U.S. District Attorney's office in Eastern New York. The investigation was conducted by the DOJ, IRS, and Federal Bureau of Investigation.

In a separate investigation, Swiss officials are looking into corruption that allegedly took place during the votes for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
