"Duck Dynasty" star in Atlanta for "Duck Dash"

ATLANTA - Jep Robertson, one of "Duck Dynasty" patriarch Phil Robertson's sons, is in Atlanta this morning for the "Duck Dash," a 5K that benefits Shriners Hospitals for Children.

"It's good to be in Atlanta," Jep said. "Y'all ready to run? Remember this is for Shriner's. Those guys are awesome. It's always great to help kids."

He thanked his fans for their support.

He then told a story involving his Uncle Si and a pack of coyotes. Seems Uncle Si ran so fast getting away from the pack that his feet caught on fire. Luckily there was a puddle of water nearby and Si was able to extinguish the flames.

"I hope that doesn't happen to you today," Jep said. "Y'all rock!"

Thus concluded his pre-race comments, which made zero mention of this week's controversy. He is scheduled to address the crowd after the race is over; check back for updates.

Plenty of racers are here on this rainy Saturday to run and show support.

"I would have been here anyway," said Peggy Grimes of Dallas. "I thought it would be a great opportunity to show support for the family and all that they stand for."

Earlier this week the Robertson family issued a statement indicating they may seek to part ways with A&E following the network's decision to suspend Phil Robertson.

"We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right. We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty.  Again, thank you for your continued support of our family."

Karen, John and Brandi Gilbert of Cartersville raced in outfits involving lots of creative camouflage, and Karen and Brandi carried cups bearing Phil Robertson's likeness as a show of support.

"Clean, wholesome family values," is what John Gilbert likes about the show. "Would you rather watch that or Miley Cyrus?"
