Police crackdown proving effective

The Atlanta police crackdown on kidnappings and robberies in Buckhead seems to be working.

Police have announced they have taken a group of suspects into custody and more arrests are on the way.

"We have made four arrests in connection to these kidnappings and robberies," says APD Lieutenant Rodney Woody.

"We've experienced a number of kidnapping type robberies in the Buckhead area," he says, "Where the victim has been taken off the street, taken to an ATM machine and made to withdraw money."

In custody are Steven Brown, Cleaver Jones, Janorus Garner, and Tayler Cline.

All have been charged with armed robbery, kidnapping and other crimes.

Three were apprehended shortly after pulling off one of their hold-ups.

"They committed an incident on Piedmont and the Georgia State Patrol helped out," Woody says.  "After a short chase we apprehended these individuals."

"They attempted a kidnapping and robbery and we received information very quickly," he says.  "We had officers in the area, very close.

"We were able to get out a description, very quickly, and give that to the State Patrol and they were able to make the stop," says Woody.

Another suspect, not included in the four recent arrests, was apprehended while driving a victim's car in South Carolina.

While the police have made their arrests, they are still looking for at least four more suspects and maybe more.  As many as six victims have been robbed.

The Buckhead Coalition has recently offered a reward of up to $5000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals responsible for the robberies.

Police say that anyone with information about a holdup should call Crimestoppers at 800-577-TIPS.  Callers can remain anonymous and are eligible for a reward.
