ATM skimmer found at Dunwoody bank

Dunwoody Police investigators are warning ATM users to beware of skimming devices after the latest incident at the Sun Trust Bank on Chamblee-Dunwoody Road last weekend.

Officer Tim Fecht says bank security notified police after surveillance cameras monitored someone spending a significant amount of time at the ATM without making a transaction.

When police arrived, they discovered a device had been stuck to the card slot with double-sided tape.

“It appeared they had electronic circuit boards that were recording the PIN pad and tracking credit card numbers that were coming through the ATM slot,” says Fecht.

So far police don’t believe there were any victims due to the quick response of the department.

He says the bank is now going through its surveillance video looking for a picture of the suspect.

Fecht says it’s a reminder to be cautious when using an ATM.

“We ask anybody that’s going up to the ATM to be vigilant about checking your surroundings, checking the equipment, possibly even pulling on the machine to see if anything pops off,” he says.
