Clark Howard a convict: Halloween “steals” on costumes

Every year at Halloween WSB Consumer expert Clark Howard says if he dresses up, he is a convict.

"I wear the same costume year after year," says Howard. He adds that he bought it several years ago after Halloween when it was on sale.

Howard says another option is to share costumes with friends.

Consumers plan to splurge on costumes, candy and pumpkins, spending a record $9.1 billion this year, according to an annual survey by the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics.

That is an 8.3 percent increase from last year. Some 69% of Halloween shoppers plan to buy costumes.

Some of the costumes you will see this year will be Wonder Woman, clowns (thanks to the rebooted Pennywise in the "It" movie) and Donald Trump.
