Wet, cool May

No lasting big heat in sight next 10 days

May was comfortable much of the time, but as expected it was a month that featured the see-saw between periods of cooler than normal temps and periods of above-normal temperatures. Rainfall was similar with long dry spells interrupted by brief heavy rain.

JUNE marks the start of “Meteorological Summer”.

The Spring season had fewer than normal tornadoes across the country and normal to below-normal severe weather in Metro Atlanta. Nation-wide this Spring has had below-normal severe weather of ALL forms: tornadoes, hail and wind.

The Spring as a whole March-May for the Atlanta area temperatures and rainfall were close to normal on average ranging from just a little above to just a little below across the Metro region, while MAY was a bit cool and a little wetter than normal.

MONTH OF MAY TEMPERATURE AND RAINFALL AVERAGES COMPARED TO NORMAL:

Like March and April no long lasting extremes just up and down back and forth. Nice to have a Spring instead of going from winter to extreme summer like we have so often in the past.
