Get set for the summer sizzle to arrive this week!

Afternoon highs will climb into the upper 80s for Monday and Tuesday, but then they will soar into the low to mid 90s through the weekend. This is about 10 degrees above average, even by mid-May standards.

Thankfully, the first half of the week will feature drier air with dewpoints in the low 50s. This means that while temperatures will be in the upper 80s to low 90s, it will be a “dry heat” and somewhat tolerable, especially in the shade.

However, an area of high pressure will develop off the Gulf of Mexico later this week, funneling humid air back into Metro Atlanta on Wednesday afternoon through the early weekend. As a result, the heat will be partnered with the humidity.

The average first 90 degree day in Atlanta is May 31, but the earliest on record occurred in April.
