During the month of August, the Atlanta Airport has registered as many as 19 days of rainfall, marking nearly 3 weeks of rain in the month alone.
This is in stark contrast to the month of June, when only 12 days of rain were recorded during a month when afternoon temperatures reached the upper 90s to low 100s.
Earlier this summer, Moderate Drought conditions developed in Metro Atlanta and throughout the state of Georgia, but just two months later, the drought has been eased.
Drought Conditions have been erased in Metro Atlanta and virtually all of the state of Georgia for the first time since October 12, 2021, or about 42 weeks ago.
The Atlanta Airport has picked up a little over 6 inches of rain as of this morning, whereas the average monthly rainfall for August is 4.30 inches.
This places August 2022 in the Top 25 wettest Augusts on record for the city of Atlanta.
The wettest August on record for Atlanta occurred in 1920, when 10.02 inches of rain fell within the month.
