Get ready to protect the Fall garden and gather the sensitive houseplants, the first frost of the season is possible this weekend!

Morning temperatures will dip into the mid to upper 30s, which is cold enough to form frost on grass blades and leaves. Any sensitive plants left outside may experience frost damage.

Why the chilly plunge?

High pressure over Texas, as well as low pressure off the Eastern Seaboard, will funnel colder air through the Appalachian Mountains into the Deep South, including Georgia and Alabama.

The average low temperature for Saturday and Sunday in Atlanta is 46 degrees, however morning lows will drop about 10 degrees below average and land in the mid 30s.

According to the National Weather Service in Atlanta, November 3 is the average first date in which morning lows dip to 36 degrees in the metro Area. The earliest arrival of a frosty cold 36 degrees occurred on September 30, 1967. The latest date of the first frost occurred on November 30, 2020.
