Colder Air Returns this Weekend, Freeze Watch in Effect Sunday Morning

Hold onto your winter coats! The coldest air of the season is on its way this weekend, with forecast lows dipping into the upper 20s to low 30s through Sunday morning!

A cold front will swing through North Georgia late Friday night, and a gusty northwest wind will continue to pull arctic air into Metro Atlanta.

Saturday morning lows will be in the low 40s, but afternoon highs will be limited to the mid 50s despite the sunshine.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Freeze Watch for much of North Georgia --including Metro Atlanta -- which will go in effect at 10pm Saturday night and continue through 9am Sunday morning.

Forecast low temperatures on Sunday morning include low 30s for cities inside the Perimeter, and potentially the upper 20s for colder spots outside of the Perimeter throughout Metro Atlanta, as well as the North Georgia Mountains.

Chilly morning temperatures will remain in the forecast through mid-week.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, the average date for the first fall freeze in Atlanta is November 13 -- this is the average date for the first 32 degree observation of the season. The first hard freeze (temperature of 27 degrees or below) usually occurs around December 2.

Below is additional information from the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.
