Get set for a cold, wet and windy day in Metro Atlanta on Tuesday.
Cold air has settled into the Southeast United States, but a surface low will pull moisture into the region Tuesday morning. As a result, a cold rain will fall on Tuesday, with wind gusts as high as 20 mph throughout the day.
If this set up had occurred in December or January, this would be a potential winter weather maker. However, the air will be just warm enough as the rain falls on Tuesday to be liquid, but afternoon highs in the 40s means the rain will be quite cold.
The animation below shows the Futurecast radar for Tuesday. Rain showers will start off as hit or miss early in the morning, but it will be widespread throughout the afternoon. The rain showers will end just in time for the evening commute.
The rain will move out quickly, which means rainfall totals will be limited to 0.5 - 1 inches. However, this is beneficial, as a Severe Drought continues to impact Metro Atlanta and North Georgia.
As chilly as it will be Tuesday, a warm up is not expected behind the rain. In fact, temperatures will remain 15-20 degrees below average heading into the weekend.
