Braves-Dodgers Game 6: Atlanta returns home with trip to World Series on the line

ATLANTA — For Atlanta sports fans it’s an age-old narrative, “Can Atlanta finish a series?”

The question is being asked again after the Braves, who were up 3-1 in NLCS, lost 11-2 to the Dodgers in Game 5 Thursday night.

Freddie Freeman understands the history of Atlanta sports and knows what needs to be done.

“It’s going to be the narrative it seems because every day it’s brought up the last couple days. So I don’t think we have a choice until we kill that narrative,” Freddie Freeman said. “We’re up 3-2 and we’re going home. That’s a great position to be in.”

Game 6 of the series will be played Saturday night in front of what is expected to be a raucous crowd looking for their team to finally get past the LA hurdle.

Game Information:

First Pitch: 8:08 p.m. Saturday at Truist Park; Parking lots open at 4 p.m., gates at 5 p.m.

Tickets: Some tickets are available on the secondary markets. Tickets for Game 6 start at $165 on StubHub. Fans who don’t have tickets can watch the game at the Battery’s plaza lawn.

Starting Pitchers: Braves Ian Anderson vs Walker Buehler for Dodgers.

Anderson started and struggled a little in Game 2 giving up two runs in three innings before Brian Snitker went to the bullpen.

Max Scherzer was scheduled to start for Dodgers but ruled out Friday night. Walker Buehler will start instead on short 3-days rest. He gave up seven hits and four runs in 2.3 innings pitched in Game 3.

What to look for: The Braves just need to bounce back. They’ve been able to rebound most of the season from bad losses, they’ll need to do that again Saturday night.

Freddie Freeman has heated up and Eddie Rosario is hitting everything thrown at him. The Braves will need
to get to Buehler early like they did in Game 3. If it comes down to the final innings, Los Angeles closer Kenley Jansen is fresh after a couple of days off.

Atlanta’s pitching staff will need to settle Los Angeles lineup which came alive in Game 5 behind Chris Taylor. The Braves used a bullpen game for Game 4 and Max Fried didn’t have his strongest outing in Game 5.

Anderson’s ability to go further than he did in his last start will be crucial. On the plus side for Atlanta, relievers Tyler Matzek and Will Smith had a few days of rest.
