Braves drop Sunday finale to Phillies

The Braves had their four-game winning streak snapped by the Phillies at Truist Park Sunday night in a 7-6 loss. A sacrifice fly from Didi Gregorius was the difference in the 9th inning.

The Braves’ record fell to 4-5.

Despite the loss, the Braves have a couple lineup regulars who continue hot at the plate. Ronald Acuna Jr. hit another home run Sunday. He went 9 for 13 in the series against the Phillies. Freddie Freeman homered twice over the weekend.

Four wins over the past five games helped the Braves and its fans feel better after the 0-4 start to the season.

A doubleheader sweep of the Nationals Wednesday had been followed by two home-opening wins over the Phillies Friday and Saturday.

The Braves followed an 8-1 victory with Saturday night’s 5-4 decision over the Phillies. In that win, Freddie Freeman smacked a two-run homer along with a go-ahead RBI grounder in the 7th inning. The Braves’ bullpen was lockdown solid.

The Braves welcomed fans back inside Truist Park over the weekend for the first time in 18 months. Due to pandemic precautions, the team is only allowing 33% capacity.

The Braves get set to open a four-game series against the Miami Marlins Monday night.
