Georgia State Patrol and Atlanta police are searching for a passenger they say escaped during a traffic stop and injured a trooper.

Officials told Channel 2 Action News that the trooper has been taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with a head injury.

Georgia State Patrol said this started as a traffic stop near Hank Aaron Drive and Bill Lucas Drive around 8:45 p.m. Saturday night.

The trooper pulled over a car with a broken tail light and detained the driver after smelling marijuana.
