STAMFORD, Conn. — Several Connecticut firefighters used some muscle and resolve to rescue a woman trapped under a transit bus on Tuesday, authorities said.
In a news release, the Stamford Fire Department received a call at about 3:09 p.m. EDT about a woman trapped underneath the bus after being struck by the vehicle.
Firefighters arriving at the scene found the woman trapped under the front axle of the bus, WTNH-TV reported. Deputy Chief Matt Palmer said the woman was conscious and alert.

The firefighters used high-pressure airbags to lift the vehicle so the woman could be removed from under the bus, the fire department said in its release. The woman was taken to an area hospital to evaluate and treat her injuries.
The fire department released a video of the rescue, showing the firefighters placing blocks under the front axle of the bus while checking on the woman’s condition.
The woman was removed from underneath the bus within 10 minutes, WVIT-TV reported.
“This was a valiant and flawless effort by Stamford firefighters that demonstrates their exceptional talents and the department’s capabilities,” Palmer said in a statement. “Given the size and weight of this bus, we are very grateful that her injuries were not more serious.”
The fire department is investigating the incident.
