ATLANTA — A university in Georgia is giving some welcome good news to students.
Clark Atlanta University has wiped out all student account balances from spring 2020 through summer 2021 semesters.
University President Dr. George T. French told WSBTV, “We understand these past two academic years have been emotionally and financially difficult on students and their families due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That is why we will continue to do all we can to support their efforts to complete their CAU education.”
“We care about students and want to lighten their individual and family’s financial load so they can continue their journey in pursuing and attaining their educational and professional goals,” French added.
The university is able to cancel balances with the federal CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund.
The administration has also refunded some housing and meal charges, offered discount tuition and bought Wi-Fi hot spots for students who don’t have internet access at home, WSBTV reported.
It also purchased 4,000 laptops for students who are financially enrolled.
None of the help will impact future financial aid because it was a one-time outstanding balance cancelation, WSBTV reported.
