‘Scream’ trailer offers chilling preview of franchise’s 5th film

“Scream” fans, rejoice: The official trailer for the fifth film in the popular horror franchise has arrived.

According to E! News, Paramount Pictures on Tuesday released the preview of the new flick, set to hit theaters Jan. 14, 2022.

“Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past,” the trailer’s description reads.

Actress Neve Campbell, who played Sidney Prescott in the series’ first four films, reprises her role in the latest installment, joining fellow “Scream” veterans Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers) and David Arquette (Dewey Riley), Entertainment Weekly reported. New stars include Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Sonia Ammar.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett directed the new film, replacing Wes Craven, who died in 2015. Kevin Williamson, screenwriter of the original “Scream,” also returned as an executive producer, the entertainment outlets reported.
