A nationwide recall of ham has been expanded.
Alexander & Hornung, a company under Perdue Premium Meat Company Inc., had recalled 234,000 pounds of ham and pepperoni products earlier this month, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.
The recall has now been expanded to more than 2.3 million pounds.
The reason for the recall is potential listeria contamination, which could cause listeriosis. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, diarrhea and other gastrointestinal symptoms. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics.
The items were produced on various dates but all have the establishment number EST. M10125 inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The complete list can be found on the Alexander & Hornung website.
The FSIS is concerned that the recalled products could be in people’s freezers.
If you have questions about this recall, you can call Alexander & Hornung at 1-866-866-3703 Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST.
