According to Deadline, the event has been dubbed “A Night When Hope and History Rhyme,” and guests will be required to get tested for COVID-19 before attending.

Erection of a large tent on the South Lawn for the event began Monday, a White House official confirmed to CNN. According to the official, the concert has been planned quietly over the past several months, and 2,000 guests have been invited to attend, the network reported.

John’s performance was announced after James Taylor performed at the White House last week to kick off the celebration of the passage of President Joe Biden’s 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, according to Rolling Stone.

“A Night When Hope and History Rhyme,” a collaboration with A&E Networks and The History Channel, will air on a to-be-determined date on television, the White House official told CNN.

According to the news release, the concert will “celebrate the unifying and healing power of music, commend the life and work of Sir Elton John, and honor the everyday history-makers in the audience, including teachers, nurses, frontline workers, mental health advocates, students, LGBTQ+ advocates and more.”

In 1998, John was invited by then-President Bill Clinton to entertain at a State Dinner for then-British Prime Minister Tony Blair, CNN reported.

The “Rocket Man” singer will also perform a concert Saturday at Nationals Park.
