Both Elmo and Big Bird, mainstays of the children’s educational program, appeared during CNN’s Saturday town hall, “The ABCs of COVID-19 Vaccines,” moderated by journalist Erica Hill, USA Today reported.

Federal health officials recently granted emergency use authorization to Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine for children ages 5 to 11.

Meanwhile, Big Bird’s grandmother, Granny Bird, accompanied him to the town hall, revealing that the iconic yellow bird would soon get his own jab.

Big Bird is generally identified as being about 6 years old, USA Today reported, placing him squarely within the new age group approved to receive COVID-19 inoculations.

Late Sunday evening, President Joe Biden praised Big Bird for his decision via Twitter.

According to USA Today, however, Big Bird’s tweets drew the ire of some conservatives, including Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who called the Muppets’ endorsement of the COVID-19 vaccine “government propaganda”
