Jay Jacobs, former William Morris music agent, dead at 79

Jay Jacobs, a retired music agent who worked with the William Morris Agency for three decades, died Thursday, Billboard reported. He was 79.

Jacobs died at the Motion Picture Home in Woodland Hills, California, after a brief battle with lung and bone cancer, according to Deadline.

Jacobs’ clients included The Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel and Diana Ross, Billboard reported. He began working in the mailroom at the William Morris Agency in 1961 and later became an agent and a founding member of the William Morris music department.

“Today we mourn the loss of Jay Jacobs, whose lengthy career as a talent agent was part of a rich and colorful life,” the Motion Picture and Television Fund wrote on Twitter. “We were recently honored to talk to Jay here at MPTF and share his journey, and may he rest in peace.”

Jacobs lived at Hersholt Place at the Motion Picture Home after being diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer in early 2021, according to Deadline.

Other clients Jacobs represented included Ashford & Simpson, George Benson, Teddy Pendergrass, Al Jarreau and Crosby, Stills, and Nash, the website reported.
