NEW CASTLE, Ind. — It was a perfect night for an Indiana bowler.

Bryan Deck, of New Castle, rolled a trio of 300 games -- a perfect 900 series -- to join an elite group of bowlers on June 20, WTHR-TV reported.

If his series is approved by the United States Bowling Congress, Deck, 44, will become the 40th person to bowl a 900 series and the third to achieve the feat in Indiana, according to the organization’s website.

“I for sure made history last night (Monday), and it don’t seem real,” Deck messaged The Courier-Times of New Castle after his perfect night at Rose City Bowl. “I keep watching the videos. Lol.”

Deck, who has been bowling since he was 7 and calls himself “real competitive,” told WTHR he originally did not plan to bowl that night.

“I wasn’t feeling the greatest, I wasn’t really going to bowl,” Deck, who has bowled at Rose City Bowl for nearly 38 years, told the television station. “Then I went to my dad’s grave like I always do and kind of sit there and talk to him for about an hour and it was about 5:45 and I was like, ‘Eh.’”

“I was wore out from working, I didn’t really feel like bowling. I just felt that weird,” Deck added. “Like my dad said, ‘Just go bowl, son, do what you do best.’”

Before his milestone series, Deck had one unsanctioned 300 game and seven 299 games to his credit. His highest three-game series was 813, The Courier-Times reported.

But after warming up, the right-hander believed something magical was about to happen.

“Well, when I was practicing, I could tell then it was gonna be a great night,” Deck told The Courier-Times. “Then, as (the) game started I couldn’t throw the ball no better. It was blasting the pins.”

When he got the strike in the ninth frame of the first game, Deck said he thought to himself “I got this.”

After rolling his second perfect game, Deck began to run out of energy and his nerves began to fray.

“So I get up there and, I said, ‘C’mon, Dad, pull me through this last game. C’mon,’ you know?” Deck told WTHR. “And I get up there and like the fifth frame ... or the sixth frame, it was like he just jumped inside my body. It was unreal.”

Finally, Deck got to the 10th frame of the third game. Perfection was one strike away.

“I don’t remember much,” Deck told The Courier-Times. “I was real lightheaded and so weak. Took a deep breath and I’m almost positive my dad pulled me through to get my third 300 in a row for a perfect 900. I can’t really describe it any better. Unreal!”

The first sanctioned 900 series recorded by the USBC was bowled by Jeremy Sonnenfeld, of Lincoln, Nebraska, on Feb. 2, 1997, the organization posted on its website. The most recent came on March 13, when Stephen Kosela, of Ambridge, Pennsylvania, rolled 36 straight strikes.

Deck said hard work and practice can help dreams come true.

“I know mine sure did last night,” Deck told The Courier-Times.
