According to WOAW-TV, the bus driver remained with the bus until an alternate driver called to complete the route. The students were safely returned to their homes without incident, school officials in the town of Tomahawk said.

Tomahawk police Chief Al Elvins told WSAW-TV that the driver called a different driver and asked them to complete the route. The driver remained at the scene until the alternate arrived.

Elkins said the original driver did allow students to exit the bus when their parents arrived, according to the television station.

An email sent by Tomahawk superintendent Wendell Quesinberry to families said that the driver will no longer be transporting students in the district, WOAW reported. Police said the driver has cooperated with authorities and has not been arrested or ticketed for any violations, according to the television station.

“Safely transporting our students to and from school is no menial task,” Quesinberry wrote. “We value our partnership with the Tomahawk Bus Company and hope this incident doesn’t tarnish the dedication shown by all of the other bus drivers.”
