His family said on Twitter he died suddenly at home Tuesday.

The group was probably best known with hits “Shang-A-Lang,” “Bye, Bye, Baby,” and “Give a Little Love.”

He said of his group in 2016, “I think we were a breath of fresh air in the 70s,” CNN reported.

“There was nothing complicated about our music — although it’s amazing how many people who used to come to our concerts as teenagers are still coming back with their daughters after all these years, and they’re singing our songs together. That’s pretty special,” McKeown said, according to CNN.

The band went on to sell more than 120 million records during their heyday, BBC News reported.

McKeown joined the band in 1973 and left in 1978 but had been touring around the world with former bandmates with dates in the United Kingdom and in North America.
