YUMA, Ariz. — Two people in Arizona are accused of intentionally coughing on Walmart employees at a Yuma store and then trying to flee, authorities said.
Frank Montoya, 38, and Victoria Parra Carranza, 23, face several charges, including aggravated assault, KTVK reported. They were booked in the Yuma County Adult Detention Facility.
According to the Yuma Police Department, employees at Walmart said that Montoya and Carranza refused to wear masks in the store when asked to do so Wednesday. At that point, both deliberately coughed on the employees, KNXV reported.
When officers arrived and attempted to identify Montoya and Carranza to give them a trespassing citation, “both refused and Montoya became confrontational,” Yuma Police spokesperson Sgt. Lori Franklin told the Arizona Republic.
Montoya fled on foot and was taken into custody while fighting with officers, KNXV reported. Carranza attempted to interfere with Montoya’s arrest and was also taken into custody, the television station reported.
