HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — An Alabama man is accused of meeting a 13-year-old girl through an online dating app and using social media to engage in sexual activity, authorities said.
Daniel Sharp, 22, of Huntsville, was arrested Thursday and charged with rape, sodomy, transmitting obscene material to a child, traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act, and electronic solicitation of a child, WHNT reported.
According to the Huntsville Police Department, Sharp spoke with the teen and then traveled to Morgan County to meet with her, the television station reported. Police said Sharp brought the girl back to his Huntsville apartment, where he had sexual contact and intercourse with the minor, AL.com reported.
The Anti-Crime Team found Sharp at his apartment on Thursday and arrested him without incident, WAFF reported. Sharp was booked into the Madison County Jail, the television station reported.
Huntsville Police spokesperson Lt. Sumlin said that the investigation is ongoing, adding that additional charges may be brought against Sharp, WHNT reported.
