Relaxed restrictions may create increase weekend traffic for Atlanta

Between the past days of local protests and the relaxing of some COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, more traffic is expected to affect the weekend commute through Metro Atlanta.

The increased opening of restaurants and area parks might create some local street and highway delays, but public gatherings are still somewhat restricted-despite recent protests in Downtown Atlanta -- as we approach the first weekend of June.

Note that the City of Atlanta shall continue enforcing nightly curfews during the weekend, beginning at 8:00 p.m. State officials still ask residents to practice social distancing and to remain cautious with weekend travel plans.

Expressway road work continues to restrict lanes in Sandy Springs for I-285 this weekend at the Georgia/400 Corridor project between Roswell Road (Exit 25) and Ashford-Dunwoody Road (Exit 29).

Also, expect lanes blocked on I-75 in Cobb County by Barrett Parkway (Exit 269) and in Clayton County between Jonesboro Rd. (SR-54) and Tara Blvd. (Hwy. 41) during overnights.

Projects along I-285’s west side perimeter around Camp Creek Parkway (Exit 2) and south of Paces Ferry Road (Exit 18) may create delays.

More work on I-85/South in Atlanta will block lanes past Georgia-400 (Exit 87) as well as along Spring St. by 18th Street in Atlanta.

*All construction is as GDOT reports it and is weather-permitting. All times, lanes blocked, and locations could change.
