Reduced COVID-19 restrictions may bring more weekend traffic to Atlanta

Many Georgia residents are starting to venture out and about, while the COVID-19 pandemic remains a major factor with daily work and activities. A loosening of some restrictions (such as increased restaurant access and more park openings statewide) could create an increase in traffic volume on Metro Atlanta expressways and state routes. Georgia officials continue to advise everyone to avoid travel deemed non-essential, and to limit any travel where larger events could exist.

Expressway road repairs continue to restrict lanes in Sandy Springs for I-285 at the Georgia/400 Corridor project between Roswell Road (Exit 25) and Chamblee-Dunwoody Road (Exit 30). Also expect lane restrictions in Cobb County by Barrett Parkway and on I-75 by Barrett Parkway (Exit 269) for overnight road work. Projects along I-285’s west side perimeter between Camp Creek Parkway (Exit 2) and Paces Ferry Road (Exit 18) may create delays. More work on I-85 in Atlanta will block lanes southbound between Georgia-400 and the Buford Spring Connector (Exit 86, SR-13), while Peachtree Road will have multiple lanes blocked by Brookwood Place and Palisades Road all weekend.

*All construction is as GDOT reports it and is weather-permitting. All times, lanes blocked, and locations could change.
