Trump supporters gather for ‘Stop the Steal’ rallies outside Capitol, Governor’s mansion

ATLANTA — A group of hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the Capitol Saturday in support of President Donald Trump.

Later Saturday night, the group staged another rally in front of the Governor’s mansion.

The events were organized by a group called Stop the Steal, which claims Trump lost the 2020 election due to massive voter fraud. Trump and his lawyers have not been able to provide evidence to back up his claims.

On Friday, Gov. Brian Kemp certified election results for the state. After a hand re-count and audit, President-elect Joe Biden still has almost 13,000 more votes than President Trump.

A group of counter-protesters gathered on the other side of a row police in riot gear as a line of state troopers blocked the street.

Supporters of the president have gathered at the Capitol for several days since President-elect Joe Biden was declared the winner in Georgia. Saturday’s crowd was by far the largest.

Speakers climbed a ladder to address the crowd from a bullhorn, demanding the Georgia conduct a special session of Congress.

The protest remained peaceful at the Capitol and people dispersed by around 2:30 p.m. with calls to reconvene at the Governor’s mansion Saturday night.

A second group gathered in front of CNN center earlier Saturday, speaking out against what they call the “fake news” network.
