Trump accepts nomination, says Biden would ruin America

Kicking off the fall campaign for the White House, President Donald Trump blasted Democratic Party nominee Joe Biden on Thursday night, capping the Republican convention by decrying a host of Democratic policies, and accusing Biden of being nothing more than an empty vessel for liberal policies.

“Joe Biden is not a savior of America’s soul, he is the destroyer of America’s jobs,” the President said. “And if given the chance he will be the destroyer of American greatness.”

Accepting his party’s nomination for President on the South Lawn of the White House, Mr. Trump cast his election fight with Joe Biden as one of good versus evil.

“Joe Biden is weak. He takes his marching orders from liberal hypocrites,” the President said, calling Biden a ’Trojan horse for socialism’ who won’t stand up to ’wild-eyed Marxists.’

“We have spent the last four years reversing the damage Joe Biden inflicted over the last 47 years,” the President said. “Biden’s record is a shameful roll call of the most catastrophic betrayals and blunders in our lifetime.”

“Joe Biden’s agenda is ’Made in China’ - my agenda is, ’Made in the U.S.A,” the President said to cheers, and chants of “USA!”

“I ask you a very simple question: How can the Democrat Party ask to lead our country when it spends so much time tearing down our country?” the President said to lengthy applause from the crowd.

The President’s address capped another night of GOP speeches from both Washington and around the nation.

“Today’s Democrat Party doesn’t want to improve life for middle America,” said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who even accused Democrats of trying to limit “how many hamburgers you can eat.”

Other speakers included White House aides, the President’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, and the head of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Mr. Trump became the first President since Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1940 to accept a nomination with a speech from the White House, as an estimated 1,000 guests gathered on the South Lawn amid giant television monitors.

“The White House belongs to the people, not to a political party,” complained Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-NJ), as Democrats grumbled at the campaign spectacle.

There was almost no social distancing among the guests seated on the South Lawn, as reporters were told only some of the audience near the podium would be tested for the Coronavirus.

On the subject of the virus outbreak, the President told supporters a vaccine was being rushed to development - maybe even later in 2020.

“We will defeat the virus and the pandemic and emerge stronger than ever before,” Mr. Trump said, as he vowed that the economy would rebound from the troubles caused by the virus outbreak.

“In a new term as President, we will again build the greatest economy in history – quickly returning to full employment, soaring incomes, and record prosperity,” the President said, all but promising a major advance in coming months.

“We are delivering life-saving therapies and will produce a vaccine before the end of the year or maybe even sooner,” Mr. Trump amid chants of “Four more years!”

The President and Vice President will quickly hit the campaign trail on Friday in a bid to seize on any momentum from the GOP convention, which was drastically altered because of the Coronavirus outbreak.

Vice President Pence will make stops on Friday in Minnesota and Michigan, while President Trump will hold an airport event outside Manchester, New Hampshire.

As for Democrats, Biden told a group on Thursday that he was ready to resume campaign stops after Labor Day. He has spent much of the past five months at his home in Delaware because of the Coronavirus outbreak.
