Police, fire reports include update on Tate Center probe, deadly shooting in Monroe

The University of Georgia reopened the Tate Center Monday while investigators continued their search for the cause of the Friday night fire that caused minor damage to the building that sits next to Sanford Stadium. Fireworks in the stadium that was hosting UGA commencement exercises are still considered a possible spark for the fire that did not result in any injuries.

There were no injuries reported in Jackson County, where a tractor-trailer rig and a freight train collided on tracks near Pendergrass. It happened Monday afternoon.

The GBI says a Walton County man has been arrested after allegedly shooting and killing his brother: 31 year-old James McDougal is in the Walton County jail, charged in the murder of 27 year-old Henry McDougal. The deadly shooting happened at a home in Monroe.

Charity Montgomery is calling on Barrow County Commissioners to adopt an ordinance that would require owners of pit bulls to post warning signs on their property: Montgomery’s 15 year-old niece was brutally attacked by pit bulls at home near Winder this past July. Joslyn Stinchcomb has undergone 19 surgeries since the attack.

A body has been found after a house fire in Habersham County: the blaze burned a home near Cornelia. The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
