The same man Brookhaven Police are looking for in connection with the rape of a woman at a bus stop on Buford Hwy. last month may be connected to several sexual assaults in recent months around metro Atlanta.

Maj. Brandon Gurley says authorities have linked Roberto Gaona-Pina to the crime in Brookhaven and believe he may be hiding in Alabama.  The department is currently awaiting DNA results to positively identify him as the attacker.

Meantime, Norcross Police now say Gaona-Pina is the prime suspect in two sexual assaults that occurred in December near a bus shop on Jimmy Carter Blvd. near South Peachtree Street.

Capt. Bill Grogan tells WSB's Sandra Parrish DNA from of those cases matches that from the suspect in a Roswell rape last October on Holcomb Bridge Road.

Now the three agencies are collaborating on the four cases and looking for Gaona-Pina.
"It would be surprising if it were not him," says Grogan.

He says in each of the cases the women were attacked at or near bus stops on major roadways and then dragged into wooded areas where they were assaulted.

Grogan says in one of the Norcross cases, the victim was able to fight off her attacker.

"It's unfortunate… that it takes this number of incidents to identify someone, but I'm thankful that it's at least now and not later," he says.
