Sheriff Victor Hill: "I will continue with my duties and responsibilities"

One day after his arrest, Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill is releasing a new statement about the shooting that badly wounded his friend.

Hill says "I want to thank you all for your continued prayers for Gwenevere, and ask that you continue to keep her and her family lifted in prayer."

Gwenevere McCord remains in critical condition after she was shot in the stomach at a model home in Lawrenceville Sunday night.  In a 911 call, Hill said he was "practicing police tactics" when he accidentally shot McCord.

The statement from Hill continues "While focused on the recovery and healing of Gwenevere, I will simultaneously continue with my duties and responsibilities as the sheriff of Clayton County."

He says "As a result of the tragic accident, I was charged with reckless conduct, a misdemeanor, in Gwinnett County."

Hill turned himself in at the Gwinnett County jail just before 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.  He was released after posting $2,950 bond.

Hill continues to remain silent about the details of the shooting, both publicly and to investigators.
