This is Chestnut's 13th hot dog championship title. His previous record was 74 hot dogs set in 2018.
Miki Sudo ate 48.5 hotdogs to set a new women's record. It was her seventh appearance in the contest.
The event took place with coronavirus safety measures in place. Competitors were six feet apart and separated by plexiglass. There were no fans in attendance.
"I knew I was fast in the beginning," Chestnut told USA Today. "I hit a wall (at the end). I really missed the crowd."
