ATLANTA — It has been nearly one week since our colleague and friend Jovita Moore underwent brain tumor surgery.

Since then, Jovita has been resting and recovering. Jovita is doing well and will remain in the hospital through Friday when she will move to a rehab facility to begin the next phase of her recovery.

The outpouring of support for Jovita continues to be overwhelming, with more than 23,000 of you leaving your messages and well wishes for her on her page.

Background

The surgery took place just days after doctors discovered two small masses on her brain. Jovita underwent an MRI after noticing symptoms on April 12. Just before going on air that day, Jovita told Channel 2′s Justin Farmer that she wasn’t feeling great.

“I was really concerned about why all of a sudden I was forgetful, disoriented and just not feeling myself. Feeling like I was in a fog and really wanting to get out of that fog,” Jovita said.

Later that evening as she walked through the grocery store parking lot, she realized it was more than just not feeling well.

“It was a blessing in disguise that I almost passed out walking into Publix,” Jovita said. “I was walking. I remember walking across the parking lot and feeling like I wasn’t going to make it to the door. I was almost like walking in quicksand.”

A scan of her brain revealed two small masses.

“It’s significant. It’s gonna be a lot,” Jovita said. “We had to start then having a conversation about what that was and what that meant.”

Her neurosurgeon Dr. Edjah Nduom said he and his team are crafting a plan of action.

“I can tell you Jovita is upbeat, optimistic and feels surrounded by love. All of those things feed into someone being in a good place to recover. People who are functioning very well at a time they’re faced with this tend to do better,” Nduom said.

Recovery from the surgery will last 8-10 weeks.

“Not sure when I’ll be back on air but when I’m able, I will be,” she said.

Jovita said she has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from the community.

“I know we have great viewers. I know that the prayer warriors are gonna be at work,” Jovita said. “I just felt like it was something I needed to share. I didn’t want to just disappear from air for a couple of months and I wanted people to know what was going on. Also, I want to feel that energy, that outpouring and that support as well. I know they’re gonna bring it.”
