South Metro Express lanes to reverse to help evacuee traffic

The I-75 South Metro Express Lanes are set to reverse to the northbound direction Tuesday night at 10:30 p.m. The move is being made due to Hurricane Ian precautions, and to accomodate evacuee traffic out of Florida and south Georgia.

Peach Pass GA says the lanes will remain in the northbound flow until the storm passes.

There are thousands of Floridians on the road already getting out of harm’s way. Many south Georgia residents are doing the same.

A State of Emergency for all of Georgia went into effect at 7 p.m. Tuesday, ahead of the potential for flooding, downed trees, powerlines and debris later this week.

Forecasters say Georgia is likely to get heavy rain and gusty winds by late in the week. How much different parts of the state get is still too soon to determine at this point.
