Santa to arrive by helicopter for city’s Christmas tree lighting

"Rudolph with your nose so bright, won't you guide my... helicopter tonight?"

Santa will trade out his sleigh for a Children’s Heathcare of Atlanta helicopter next week when he descends on the city of Brookhaven’s Christmas tree lighting event.

“Light Up Brookhaven,” scheduled for Wednesday night, Dec. 4, at Blackburn Park, will feature music, food and holiday family fun.

The city plans to use man-made snow and install a “snow mountain” for kids to slide down. Choirs will provide live holiday music, and food trucks will be on hand for food purchases.

Families can also pose with two live reindeer and participate in a flashlight candy cane search. Residents are also encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy for the annual Toys for Tots campaign.

Santa’s dramatic arrival by helicopter will accompany the lighting of the 40-foot tree by Mayor John Ernst and young Children’s patients. Rabbi Brian Glusman and members of the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta will light the city Hanukkah menorah.

The event will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the park, located at 3493 Ashford Dunwoody Road.
