2 separate shootings leave 1 person dead on metro Atlanta interstates overnight

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — There were two shootings on metro Atlanta interstates overnight, leaving one person dead and another injured.

The first shooting happened just before 2 a.m. on I-75 south at Mount Zion Boulevard. Clayton County police said someone in a sedan fired a shot at the victim inside of a truck while driving.

The victim was taken to the hospital. Police are still searching for the shooter.

About an hour later, Gwinnett County police said another person was shot on the interstate near Jimmy Carter Boulevard around 3 a.m. He pulled over and was later taken to the hospital, where he died.

Authorities are searching for the shooter, who was in another vehicle. There is currently no description of the suspect vehicle.

Detectives are asking people to come forward and contact police if they have any information on the shooting.

These are the fifth and sixth interstate shooting this year.

On Feb. 25, a man was found shot to death inside of an SUV on I-20 at the Downtown Connector. Police are still searching for the killer.

On Feb. 10, two men were shot and one of them died on I-85 at the Peachtree overpass in Midtown Atlanta.

On Jan. 15, a man was shot and killed on I-85 at North Druid Hills in DeKalb County.

On Jan. 4, police found Ernesto Anderson in his car on the shoulder of I-20 near Capitol Ave. dead with a gunshot wound to the head.
