Paulding County school closes in-person classes for two days after recent COVID cases

North Paulding High School will not hold in-person instruction for students Monday and Tuesday of this week due to recent positive cases of COVID-19.

In a letter to school parents and guardians obtained by Channel 2 Action News, district superintendent Brian Otott says the decision comes in consultation with the Department of Public Health.

“As a result of our being informed of nine cases of COVID-19 at North Paulding High School following the first week of in-person instruction, along with the possibility that number could increase if there are currently pending tests that prove positive…(we) are temporarily switching the instructional model to Digital Learning at NPHS,” writes Otott.

The system says teachers will post assignments online Monday, August 10. Students will participate in digital learning on Tuesday, August 11.

This weekend, the school confirmed six students and three staff members who were in the North Paulding High School building last week reported positive coronavirus tests.

The school was in the national headlines days ago when a student posted a photo on social media showing a crowded hallway.
