Gun advocate sees potential customers in gun-control protesters

An Atlanta group planning a "die-in" Tuesday near the state Capitol canceled the demonstration due to the threat of bad weather. One would-be attendee disagrees with the call for stricter gun control, but came hoping to connect with the group on a different level.

Tammy Jensen operates a business called Stunning Ladies, LLC, which specializes in non-lethal self-defense methods. While she was carrying a concealed .38 Tuesday morning, she knows that that wouldn't be an option for all students, since many still are too young to legally carry a gun in Georgia, anyway, even if they wanted to do so.

"I knew it was going to be a lot of young people, possibly that weren't old enough to carry a firearm," Jensen tells WSB. "I respect what they were doing, but I do have things that they can carry."

The demonstration was organized by the group that conducted Atlanta's March for Our Lives rally. The organizers said on social media that it will be rescheduled.  Jensen says the threat of a little bad weather indicates to her that the participants aren't that passionate about their cause.

Jensen's products range from stun guns and pepper sprays to personal alarms and a keychain weapon known as "bad kitty." The metal instrument looks like the outline of a cat's face.

"It's probably one of my best things, because it's in your hand. You put your fingers through her eyes. It's like putting your keys between your fingers, but this is made of steel and it'll do a lot more damage," Jensen says.

Jensen says many students don’t realize that it’s legal for them to have stun guns on public campuses. Door blocks so intruders can’t kick in doors can add a layer of security in dorms or houses, she says.

“It puts a lot of parents at ease knowing their kids on college campus have something to protect themselves,” says Jensen.

She says even people who want stricter gun laws have options to protect themselves just in case, and should carry them with them--the same way people carry insurance on their cars.

"Gun laws are for the good people that carry the guns," Jensen says. "The bad guys don't ever follow the laws. They have no laws."
